The Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia is offering a refund of the train ticket and a free FVGcard to access museums, exhibitions and cultural activities. The campaign is an invitation to travel in a sustainable way by train and visit the historial cities of Trieste or Udine, or immerse oneself in the nature of Grado and Lignano Sabbiadoro.
The campaign is possible thanks to an agreement between Trenitalia and PromoTurismoFVG. To be eligible, travelers must stay a minimum of two nights in one of the participating hotels. The offer is valid until May 31, 2023
Located in the northeast of the country, bordering Austria and Slovenia, Friuli Venezia Giulia is one of the least visited regions in Italy. The city of Trieste only became fully part of Italy after World War I, as it was part of the Habsburg monarchy from 1382 until 1918. It is thus full of Austro-Hungarian and Slovenian influences.
Udine, also once part of the Venetian and then Austrian empires, is a cultural city. There is a 13th-century cathedral, and visitors will find works by Caravaggio and Tiepolo at the Civici Museum, which was formerly a castle. The beaches of Lignano Sabbiadoro are some of the most popular ones in the region. Known as the “Mother of Venice”, Grado was constructed on a series of lagoons.
The initiative entails the purchase of Frecce, Intercity and Regional train tickets for round trips to/from the stations of Latisana-Lignano-Bibione, Cervignano-Aquileia-Grado, Trieste Airport, Trieste Centrale and Udine.
The reimbursement of tickets is applied as a discount equal to the amount of the ticket on the cost of the purchased tourist offers, which include overnight stays in the affiliated accommodations of those locations that can be consulted on the PromoTurismoFVG portal and the Travel One website.
All guests who choose to take advantage of this promotion will also receive a free FVGcard 48h for short stays or FVGcard WEEK, for stays of 3 nights or more. The card provides free access to Friuli Venezia Giulia’s main museums, PromoTurismoFVG guided tours, special discounts on tourist services and cultural activities (amusement parks, beaches, swimming pools, theaters, etc.) and also free or reduced admission to current exhibitions. On of them is “The Great Banksy Exhibition” at the Salone degli Incanti in Trieste, from November 25 to April 10, 2023.
