The big day. The happiest day of your life. The honeymoon night. There are so many ways we refer to our wedding day, it’s almost impossible to list them all. One thing is for sure, it’s one of the most important days in our lives and one you’ll remember until the end. No wonder we tend to get all nervous and perfectionist when it comes to planning a wedding. We want everything to go as planned, we want every little detail to be right and we want it to be better than yours – let’s be honest.
Location is one of the key points to take care of when you’re planning a wedding. It’s the first thing people notice when they arrive, it’s the place where they’ll spend quite a bit of time, it’s the touchable memory you can always return back to when you want to remember that big day. You can pretty much organize the wedding party wherever you want. Maybe you rent a barn, maybe you do it in your back garden, or maybe you go all out and party in a castle. But whether or not you can choose where to do your wedding ceremony, depends a lot on where you live.
In Belgium, your official wedding ceremony is pretty much always held in a city hall. Which can be quite pretty if your city hall is grandiose, but that’s certainly not always the case. In most towns, the city hall tends to be quite impersonal and a little cold. So how to avoid your wedding vows being said in a dull place? Well, from now on, you can go to Blankenberge.
Wedding under conditions
For the first time in Belgium, couples can get married on a beach. Maybe, where you live, it’s a very normal thing, but fellow Belgians will get how exceptional this is. And let’s be honest, it comes with a few conditions. First of all, if you want to get married outside – either in the King Albert I Park or on the beach next to Speelberge – you can only do so one Saturday a month, between May and September. Second of all, you’ll have to pay 250 euros for a one hour ceremony. Thirdly, you’ll be responsible for the buildup and breakdown of the piece of beach. And lastly, the beach is a public place so don’t be shook if a total stranger walks through your set-up.
Of course, as it’s Belgium, there has to be a plan B in case of bad weather. So, if the weather gods decide to interfere with your romantic beach wedding, rest assured: you can move it all last-minute into the city hall. Less romantic, yet definitely more rainproof.
