Finnish inventors created a device claimed to be the world’s first electric snow scooter.
1. Winter transport
Called the eLyly, the first electric snow scooter’s name comes from the traditional wooden ski (the lyly) that Finns once employed to navigate the snow. Its inventor, Pasi Kauppinen, told electrek that people stopped using the lyly decades ago, but its wooden design inspired the construction of the eLyly. The visual design and finishing touches of eLyly are created by famous Finnish designer Harri Koskinen.
We are challenging the usual, polluting modes of winter transport with the world’s first top-designed electric snow scooter.

2. eLyly’s anatomy
The new e-scooter uses the same natural material in its base, stem, and front ski. The device features a 1,000-watt electric motor allowing the scooter to reach a top speed of 25 km/h. Charging its lithium battery for 2.5 hours is claimed to reach a range of 20 to 30 km. The eLyly weighs 55 kg and can manage a maximum rider weight of 100 kg. It measures 180 cm tall by 120 cm long by 30 cm wide. The device also boasts a built-in headlight that helps riders see the trails at night and a tail light to avoid collisions and accidents with other riders.
3. Availability
The company said it has spent years planning an ecologically sustainable with “strong determination”.According to eLyly’s website, the production and pre-sale, without presenting figures, of the new e-scooter started in April 2021, however, a recent news report from New Atlas claims that “we’re that told pricing and commercial availability have yet to be determined”.
