British band Coldplay has recently revealed their latest video for their track “Man in the Moon”, shot entirely in Singapore. The video was created in collaboration with Warner Music Singapore and the Singapore Tourism Board, symbolising unity rising above individual differences. Beyond being a visual spectacle, the video is a heartfelt tribute to Singapore, weaving together the city’s stunning skyline and rich cultural diversity.
The clip features Coldplay performing on a floating tage at Marina Bay. Director Ben More, known for working on the “Hyme for the Weekend” video, skillfully intertwines the band’s inspiring motifs together with Singapore’s urban landscape. In fact, the band noted that it was “really fun to have a kind of dance party” against the backdrop of Singapore.
The uplifting music invites viewers to join the party and immerse themselves in the energy of the city, celebrating its spirit of inclusivity and joy. The video showcases some of the city’s most iconic landmarks while highlighting its remarkable skyline. Locations such as Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer, and Gardens Bay are on focus, revealing the heart of the city.
Celebrating Singapore’s diversity and multicultural identity, the video highlights not only the city’s vibrant youth but also its dynamic energy and the opportunities it offers to anyone who explores its options.
“While we were in Singapore, we shot the video and captured some of the amazing, young, vibrant people whom we had met. We are interested in shooting things in places we have never filmed before and mixing people up as much as possible. It was really fun to have a kind of dance party out in the middle of the water, just us and the otters,” said the band in a statement.
The video was filmed during Coldplay’s world tour in January 2024. It also features local celebrities including visual artist Sam Lo, also known as Sticker Lady, and performer Shazza, among others. Additionally, the production introduces viewers to important neighbourhoods like Chinatown and HBD estates in MacPherson.
At the end of the video, all the young participants appear on stage with Coldplay, dancing and celebrating together in a joyous finale that embodies the video’s message of diversity and shared experiences.
The music video is the latest in a series of collaborations between the Singapore Tourism Board and international pop artists, such as Billie Eilish and Charlie Puth, the band OneRepublic, and Hong Kong-born star Jackson Wang. All have highlighted Singapore’s attractions and culture.
