Pop-rock band OneRepublic has released a video giving their fans a behind the scenes peek of the creation of their song “Singapore”, one of the tracks on their newest album “Artificial Paradise”. Lead singer Ryan Tedder and keyboardist Brian Willett can be seen wandering around the city state, explaining how they gathered creative inspiration for their songwriting.
The video was filmed during OneRepublic’s visit to the city during the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix 2024 and is meant as a behind-the-scenes movie. Tedder and Willett can be seen in different locations in Singapore such as the Marina One, Peranakan Museum, Armenian Street and the Old Hill Street Police Station, while giving an insight into how the country inspired their song.
“The first time I heard Singapore fully mixed, I could see buildings shooting up from the ocean, the streets, the tapestry of creativity”, Tedder explains. “This island is both eclectic and modern. When we wrote the track in Singapore, we were inspired by the colourful juxtaposition of the modern and heritage buildings set in this cultural melting pot.”
As the video is solely meant as a behind-the-scenes for the track “Singapore”, an official visualizer should soon be released as well. Even though it is part of their newest album, the song was developed by OneRepublic in collaboration with Universal Music Singapore (UMSG) and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in what looks like a new kind of tourism promotion. Both parties expressed their enthusiasm at the release of the video.
“Universal Music Singapore is thrilled to be part of this inspiring project that celebrates creativity and Singapore with one of the world’s biggest bands”, said Alice Kent, country head for Universal Music Singapore.
“The ‘Singapore’ track beautifully pays homage to our city’s essence – a harmonious blend of heritage and modernity. Inspired by the creativity and ingenuity of the track, we invite listeners worldwide to immerse in the journey through the vibrant and eclectic tapestry Singapore offers”, explained Choo Huei Miin, Executive Director of brand, at Singapore Tourism Board.
