Many companies have announced that their employees will have to work from home until at least June or July 2021. We have all got used to this setting by now; I mean, it’s easy: pyjama pants on and something more work-appropriate on top, just until where the webcam can reach. While all this staying home, working from the couch, the bed, the toilet has been fun for a week or two, it’s getting harder and more boring to focus on the things you have to do from home.
Why don’t you try working from an entirely new, unknown location then? I know we can’t travel right now, but once all this has relaxed a bit and the situation looks brighter, we might want to leave our apartments again.
I went to Poggio ai Santi a few months back, a beautiful spot in Tuscany, which offers precisely this: working from home while being abroad. During Covid-19 times, the lovely place amidst Italian nature opened its doors for everyone who wants a bit of change to their daily routine. Nature, friendly people, Mediterranean air, beautiful views of the sea, and ruby red sunsets, all things that await you at the Italian Agriturismo.
Then, there’s the food. Do you really think I’d be writing here if there wouldn’t be anything to say about food? Well, if you did, you don’t seem to know me very well. The food at the Poggio is everything you could ask for. Breakfast here means fresh, homemade bread and jams, local cold cuts and cheeses, cakes, and more. Try a creamy pasta for lunch with porcini mushrooms or a bit more simple but bursting with taste with tomatoes from the Poggio’s own garden. Dinner will be a tough one because choosing from such an incredibly tempting menu is extremely hard. One of my favourites was the homemade toasted brioche with chicken liver pâté as a starter. The homemade Pappardelle with ragù makes a lovely main course, and man, the olive oil ice cream with olive oil from their own production is a dream.
As to seating options, there are many. The Wifi works perfectly in all rooms, so you can stay in your place and set up your office there. Or, if, like me, you like working in a relaxed atmosphere with calming music and a fireplace close by, then the shared space in the Poggio’s main building is perfect. There’re sofas, several tables that are comfortable to sit at, and you could even sit outside.
The moment you get bored or want to take some hours off, there’s a lot of things waiting for you. You could visit these 3 wineries in the area. You could also drive down to the city of San Vincenzo and stroll along the water. Also, Pisa is 45 minutes away, but you don’t even have to go that far – there are lovely villages all around.
The best thing is that the price for this experience is more than generous. The price for two people is 600€ a week, breakfast included, while for the whole month is 2,000€.
What are you waiting for? Plan your visit in 2021, maybe we’ll see each other there because I’ll definitely be back.
