Not every burger is created equally. The quality of the bread, the meat, the vegetables… everything counts towards the taste of the dish as a whole. So where to eat the best burger? According to the Champions Burger Festival, for the best burger in Europe you have to go to Spain.
The Champions Burger Festival took place in Barcelona from 20 to 29 October and gathered no less than 220,000 visitors. 24 burger businesses were present at the event, which was open to burger joints from all over Europe, although, given the location, mainly Spanish burger restaurants participated.
During the 10 day-event, all visitors were asked to give their opinion on the burgers on-site and vote for their favourite contestant. Several criteria were taken into account: bread, meat, toppings, presentation and originality. Only the best burger restaurants know how to perfectly combine those elements and therefore how to create the best burger. Once the event was over and all votes were counted, the Champions Burger Festival nominated the three best burgers and burger places in Europe – even though all of them are actually located in Spain.
1. The ‘Emmy B’ Burger, Jenkins – Valencia
The ‘Emmy B’ Burger, from Jenkins in Valencia, takes first place. This burger combines 180 grams of black angus meat, smoked cheddar cheese, caramelised onion, bacon, marinated cucumbers and homemade Korean sauce. Asian-burger fusion at its best.
2. The Pringles’ burger, La Muralla – Castellón de la Plana
On the second spot stands the Pringles’ burger, from La Muralla in Castellón de la Plana. Pringles chips play an important role in the dish, of course, combined with meat aged for 45 days, bacon, cheddar and parmesan cheese. Perfect for cheese lovers and Pringles fans alike.
3. ‘All Star Franklin’ burger, The Ranch Smokehouse – Barcelona
‘All Star Franklin’ burger, from the Ranch Smokehouse in Barcelona, comes in third. This burger combines aged rib, beef brisket that’s been smoked for 24 hours, American cheddar cheese, caramelised bacon in maple syrup, Franklin secret sauce, smoked bacon jam and barbecue fried onions. A burger not suited for the faint-hearted but which makes us very hungry.
