Authorities in Spain have removed all Covid-related restrictions for travelers coming from the EU or Schengen area from the 2nd of June. As of that date, proof of vacation, recovery, or negative test are no longer required. In its decision, Spain’s Ministry of Health noted that the majority of Member States have already taken a similar decision.
Due to the high rates of vaccination coverage, above the European Union average, and the favorable situation of the health system, it is considered appropriate to also eliminate travel restrictions for people from countries belonging to the European Union or with the consideration of associated Schengen countries.

At the end of May, authorities in Spain took the decision to open up to unvaccinated non-EU/Schengen tourists for the first time in more than two years. Some restrictions remain, however. Anyone traveling to Spain in June 2022, from anywhere in the world, can now choose to enter on the basis that they’re fully vaccinated, have a recovery certificate dated from the last six months or have a negative Covid-19 test.
“People who arrive in Spain by air or sea from countries that do not belong to the European Union or are not considered Schengen associated countries may be subjected to a health control at the first point of entry that will include, at least, the taking temperature, a documentary control and a visual check on their physical condition,” stated the Spanish Ministry of Health.
Those entering the country with a negative Covid-19 test, must present a PCR test not older than 72 hours prior to arrival in Spain, or an antigen test, 24 hours prior to departure.
Anyone traveling from France in June who arrives in Spain by land is no longer required to present any type of certificate, including vaccination, diagnostic test or recovery.
Those fully vaccinated in August 2021 or earlier would need a booster. Vaccinated individuals coming to Spain in June, need a Covid-19 booster shot if the original two-dose jab was more than 270 days (9 months) ago. In other words, anyone who was fully vaccinated in August 2021 or earlier will need their booster. Individuals who don’t have a booster or who choose not to have one, may enter the country with a negative Covid-19 test or a recovery certificate.
