Southwest Airlines and T-Mobile have confirmed a new partnership that gives all members of the Rapid Rewards loyalty program free unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi beginning 24 October 2025. With a fleet exceeding 800 aircraft, Southwest will become the largest U.S. domestic airline to offer free Wi‑Fi on every flight this year.
Under the deal, the internet connection will be granted to all travellers, regardless of their wireless provider, at no extra cost for the duration of the flight. Enrollment in the Rapid Rewards program is free, and passengers can sign up before their trip or even during their flight to access the service.
“We are focused on making sure our Customers have a great experience from the time they book a flight to the time they reach their destination,” said TonyRoach, Executive Vice President, Chief Customer & Brand Officer at Southwest Airlines. “We’re pleased to partner with T-Mobile to bring free WiFi to all Rapid Rewards Members. This is part of our ongoing commitment to elevate the cabin experience, with free WiFi being just one of the many enhancements Customers will see in the months ahead.”
Following the recently conducted fleetwide test, in which loyalty program members were offered free internet access, the airline received a high customer satisfaction score and positive feedback from participants. With the new policy, existing pricing – previously around US$8 per flight for Wi-Fi access on Southwest – will no longer apply for Rapid Rewards members.
Besides, travellers don’t need to be T-Mobile customers to access the free Wi-Fi. The partnership merely means T-Mobile is providing the infrastructure and its resources to support the Wi-Fi service.
“We’re teaming up with Southwest to make staying connected in the air easier for millions of travelers,” said Mike Katz, President of Marketing, Strategy and Products at T-Mobile. “We’re excited for Rapid Rewards Members to experience free in-flight WiFi from takeoff to landing – no strings, no surprises. It’s just one more way we’re helping make travel a little smoother.”

Several major airlines are also enhancing their in-flight connectivity offerings. United Airlines has partnered with SpaceX’s Starlink to provide gate-to-gate Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, ensuring passengers can stay connected throughout the flight. Delta Air Lines offers free internet on most domestic flights for SkyMiles members and is expanding its service to select international routes, aiming for global coverage. Following successful trials, American Airlines plans to launch high-speed connectivity at no charge on approximately 90% of its fleet starting in January 2026. Virgin Atlantic is set to become the first UK airline to offer high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi across its fleet, with installation expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
Southwest continues to improve its services to ensure delivering a smooth and reliable in-flight experience for all passengers. Earlier this year, on 29 August 2025, Southwest Airlines became the first airline to introduce a retractable barrier for cockpit protection. This barrier enhances flight safety by securing the cockpit when the flight deck door is open during flight. The airline’s first aircraft equipped with this feature entered service just ahead of the Labour Day weekend.
