The problem with TV series is that every year they just keep piling up. Unlike moves that you see once and are done, as new series come out, old ones continue filming, making the binge list never ending. Below is our selection of 10 TV series, both new releases and returning favourites, that will be worth staying in for this year:
1. Severance season 2
Returning for its second season, the series, which got 14 Emmy nominations and bagged two wins in 2022, tells the story of Mark Scout (played by Adam Scott), who agrees to a “severance” program in which his non-work memories are separated from his work memories, his life being divided between being an “Innie” (at work) and an “Outie” (outside work) with no overlap whatsoever between the two… or at least it shouldn’t be.
The second season will return to Apple TV+ on 17 January.
2. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
The third TV series inspired by Gorge R.R. Martin A Song of Ice and Fire universe, A Night of the Seven Kingdoms is based on the author’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, set about 90 years before Game of Thrones.
No exact premiere date has been announced yet, but the HBO series is set to only have 6 episodes.
3. Daredevil: Born Again
Charlie Cox is stepping back into his role as Matt Murdock, the blind lawyer with heightened abilities who is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm. At the same time, former mob boss Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, pursues his own political endeavours in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.
The series premieres on 5 March, on Disney+.
4. Suits: L.A.
A spin-off of Suits, Suits: L.A. follows Ted Black (played by Stephen Amell), a former New York prosecutor, setting up his law firm in the City of Angels. Gabriel Macht will retake his famous role of Harvey Specter in three of the ten episodes.
The series premieres on 23 February, on NBC.
5. Black Mirror season 7
The dystopian, or increasingly and scaringly realistic, universe of Black Mirror “is deep in production on six new episodes for Season 7”, according to Netflix. “It’s back to basics in many ways. They’re all sci-fi stories, but there’s definitely some horrifying things that occur, but maybe not in an overt horror-movie way. There’s definitely some disturbing content in it”, creator Charlie Brooker revealed in September 2024.
The series will return to Netflix this year, but no release date has yet been announced.
6. The Last of Us season 2
Based on the videogame with the same name, The Last of Us follows Joel Miller (played by Pedro Pascal) and Bella Ramsey (played by Bella Ramsey) making their way in a post-apocalyptic world, that has been destroyed by a global pandemic. The first live-action video game adaptation to receive major awards consideration, it received 24 Emmy nominations in 2023 and bagged 8 wins.
The series will return to HBO in April.
7. Alien: Earth
Based on the Alien franchise, the new TV series is set two years before the first Alien film, that came out in 1979. “When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat,” reads the storyline on IMDB.
The series is supposed to premiere in summer, with an exact date yet to be announced, on FX and Hulu.
8. Wednesday season 2
Jenna Ortega will be reclaiming her role as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix adaptation of the Addams Family storyline. “This season, Wednesday’s journey is darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore,” showrunners and executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar told Tudum in December 2024.
No exact release date has been revealed yet.
9. The White Lotus season 3
Following the increasingly dark complexity of the guests and employees of an exclusive White Lotus resort chain, the series has had such a success, it created the “White Lotus effect“, bringing in increasing number of tourists for the show’s filming locations.
The series returns to HBO on 16 February.
10. Only Murders in the Building season 5
Mabel Mora (played by Selena Gomez) forms a team with her neighbours of the Upper East Side apartment building, Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin) and Oliver Putam (Martin Short), and take it upon themselves to solve a series of murders that happen in their building, all while recording a true crime podcast.
