United Airlines announced on May 24th that vaccinated fliers could a year of free flights around the world. The “Your Shot to Fly” sweepstakes is meant to encourage Covid-19 vaccinations in support of the Biden administration’s national effort get more people vaccinated.

New or existing MileagePlus members who upload their vaccination card to their account by June 22nd will be automatically entered for a chance to win free flights. Members must be residents of the United States who are age 18 or older in order to enter.
Five grand prize winners, selected randomly on July 1, will receive one year of free travel to any of our global destinations in any class of service for themselves and one companion traveling with them. 30 winners, selected randomly in June, will win a roundtrip flight for two in any class of service, anywhere United flies.
United will notify the winners using the contact information on file with MileagePlus. Individuals must make sure their information is up to date. Even if the vaccination card has already been uploaded to the Travel-Ready Center for a recent trip, it still need to be upload to the MileagePlus account to enter the sweepstakes.
The round-trip travel certificates are non-transferable and will expire after one year. United’s initiative is the latest example of how companies and the government is trying to incentivize people to get the Covid-19 vaccine. Some US states have offered lottery incentives; others are offering food, entry to entertainment experiences.
According to Newsweek magazine, New York City announced free tickets to popular spots like the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Lincoln Center as well as gift cards, discounts and free food, including free fries at Shake Shack, for vaccinated residents.
The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce is running a “Shots for Shots” promotion that offers vaccinated individuals a voucher for a free drink at participating venues. In Los Angeles county, vaccinated can enter a sweepstakes to win a pair of Lakers tickets for the 2021–2022 season.
