After six years of renovation, La Géode is again open to the public, offering a unique experience in France. Now is the perfect time to go and watch a film at the venue, as owner Pathé is currently running a promotion on ticket prices.
Located in the Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, more precisely within the City of Sciences and Industry, la Géode first opened its doors in 1985. The geodesic dome was designed by architect Adrien Fainsilber and engineer Gérard Chamayou, with a diameter of 36 metres, and constructed using 6,433 polished stainless steel triangles to reflect its surroundings.
Inside the building, a 1,000 square metre hemispherical screen was employed to project films and documentaries. However, following Pathé Gaumont’s selection as the new cinema operator in 2017, the venue soon closed its doors for a complete renovation.
Now, six years later, La Géode is once again open to the public. A new IMAX Laser 4K projector has been installed to improve the quality of the screenings and the sound system was upgraded to IMAX 6.0.
Due to the exclusivity of the venue and the improvements that have been made, La Géode is now classified within the premium category of Pathé’s theatres. This means that spectators will need to pay 25€ for feature films and 13€ for documentaries at standard rates. Not cheap but in order to celebrate the reopening, Pathé is currently offering a buy one, get one free deal on tickets.
At the moment, there are multiple movies and documentaries on display. Mufasa: The Lion King will certainly be able to entertain the entire family, while documentaries Blue Whales, T.REX and Super Human Body will satisfy the curious mind. Tickets can be bought through the Pathé website.
However, when booking a slot, pay attention to the mention ‘VF’ or ‘VO’ below the movie title – ‘VF’ means ‘French version’, which results in a dubbed movie or documentary, while ‘VO’ means it is shown in its original language. Furthermore, not all films screened at La Géode use the entire hemispherical screen; check for the mention ‘Dôme’ to ensure you can fully enjoy the experience.
