Each January, the entertainment community and film fans around the world turn their attention to the Academy Awards. Interest and anticipation build to a fevered pitch leading up to the Oscar ceremony, when hundreds of millions of movie lovers tune in to watch their favourite celebrities and learn who will receive the highest honours in filmmaking.
This year, the ceremony hosted by Chris Rock was one of the most eventful evenings in the Awards’ history. Following a not very appreciated joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, who announced last year she has alopecia, Will Smith got up from his chair, climbed onto the stage and slapped the host, telling him to not mention his wife again.
Nevertheless, Chris Rock joked about it and went on with the ceremony, while Will Smith apologized for the incident during his acceptance speech.
