American actor Eric Stonestreet has been chosen as the godfather to Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, Norwegian Aqua. The vessel will set sail in 2025 and will be the brand’s first Prima Plus Class.
Stonestreet, known amongst others for his role as Cameron in the sitcom “Modern Family”, will christen the ship as it embarks on its first voyage in PortMiami on 13 April 2025. After that, the ship will move up the Florida coast to Port Canaveral, its temporary homeport until August 2025.
“We are very excited to officially welcome Eric Stonestreet to the NCL team”, said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line. “We had an amazing time with Eric on one of our ships and also got to spend some time with his charming family after. Over the past couple of months, Eric has become a true friend of NCL. Eric’s authenticity, wit, charm and genuine desire to bring happiness to the masses embodies the role of godfather for Norwegian Aqua, as well as who we are and what we stand for as a company. We are honored to have Eric as the godfather of Norwegian Aqua!”
With the launch of the Norwegian Aqua, the cruise line is introducing several novelties to its offer. Dining venues such as Sukhothai and Planterie, thrill rides like the Aqua Slidecoaster, a sports complex called Glow Court and the Aqua Game Zone will be new to the cruise line’s lineup.
As the cruise line’s first Prima Plus Class ship, the Norwegian Aqua will also feature The Haven by Norwegian, a ship-within-a-ship area with several luxurious additions such as three-bedroom duplex suites, a private sundeck, infinity pool, lounge and bar. The cruise line’s second Prima Plus Class ship, Norwegian Luna, is set to launch in 2026.
“I am blown away by what’s in store for Norwegian Aqua and I cannot wait to take a ride on the Aqua Slidecoaster, indulge in some red curry at the all-new Sukhothai and most importantly create lifelong memories with my own family while on board this innovative new ship,” said Eric Stonestreet.
As far as the ship’s itineraries go, it will host 7-day cruises from Port Canaveral to Puerto Plata, in the Dominican Republic, to Tortola on the British Virgin Islands, to St. Thomas on the US Virgin Islands and to Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian’s private island in the Bahamas. Between Agust and October 2025, there will be a number of cruises between Bermuda and New York.
At the moment, the vessel, which will be able to carry 3,600 travellers, is still under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Marghera in Italy.
