On Monday, 8 December 2025, Delta Air Lines announced that it had upgraded the Wi-Fi systems on its 1,000th plane. The entire fleet of the Atalanta-based airline should be equipped somewhere over the course of 2026.
Since the beginning of 2023, Delta Air Lines has been working to equip its fleet with free Wi-Fi aboard all its planes for travellers with a Delta SkyMiles number. While the initial plan was to have finished updating the installations by the end of 2024, hurdles along the way have caused some delays.

Delivering connectivity for every customer
As of 8 December 2025, 1,000 of the airline’s jets are equipped with the upgraded Delta Sync Wi-Fi system, for which Delta Air Lines is working in collaboration with T-Mobile. This represents some 75% of the carrier’s total fleet. Nearly all the biggest aircraft are now offering free Wi-Fi to Delta SkyMiles members, including its Boeing 737, 757, and 767 jets, as well as its Airbus A220, A320, and A330 planes.
“Delta’s commitment to delivering connectivity for every customer has been game-changing, both for our customers and for the industry at large. We’re turning our planes into platforms, where customers can stay entertained, connected, and informed from takeoff to landing. Delta Sync is the enabler that makes these personalised experiences and exclusive offers possible”, said Ranjan Goswami, senior vice president of customer experience design at Delta Air Lines.
While the installation on the Airbus A350 fleet is to be finished well before the end of December 2025, it’s mainly the carrier’s smallest planes that are still waiting for their Delta Sync Wi-Fi system. At the time of writing, some 30% of the Delta Connection regional fleet has been updated, and Delta’s smallest aircraft, the Boeing 717, is still waiting for its turn. Somewhere over the course of 2026, however, all aircraft should be able to offer Free Wi-Fi to Delta SkyMiles members.
Even once all the fleet has been upgraded with the new Wi-Fi system, travellers should still be aware of so-called dead zones while up in the air. Flights over the Pacific Ocean and the South Pacific in particular are prone to these, meaning Delta Air Lines passengers travelling to Asia or Australia should expect large stretches of time without internet connection. Additional satellite launches from Delta Air Lines’ provider Viasat should resolve the issue, but until then, dead zones remain.
In January 2023, Delta Air Lines was one of the first global carriers to announce it was working on making onboard Wi-Fi free for all Delta SkyMiles members. Since most other airlines inside and outside the US have followed their lead – including Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, and Air France, amongst others.
