In just three months, the Astana International Forum (AIF) 2025 will convene in Astana, Kazakhstan, on May 29–30 to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. The forum will focus on three key themes: Foreign Policy and International Security, Energy and Climate Change, and Economy and Finance. With high-level one-on-one discussions featuring heads of state, industry leaders, and global experts, AIF 2025 aims to shape policies for a more sustainable and secure future.
Energy transition and sustainability
A core focus of the forum will be the transition to sustainable energy and the response to global climate challenges. Kazakhstan, leveraging its role in the global energy market, will present initiatives to develop clean energy infrastructure and reduce carbon emissions. The country’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 underscores its dedication to sustainability.
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Almassadam Satkaliyev, emphasized the significance of this transition, stating that the forum represents an important step in fostering international partnerships that will accelerate the global energy transition. “We are committed to leading Central Asia towards a more sustainable future,” Satkaliyev said.

Why the Middle Corridor is more than just another transport route
AIF 2025 will also spotlight the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), known as the Middle Corridor, a vital trade route linking China and the European Union through Central Asia, the Caucasus, Türkiye, and Eastern Europe. As global trade dynamics shift, this corridor has gained strategic importance as a resilient alternative to existing routes.
However, unlocking its full potential requires €18–20 billion in infrastructure investments to enhance capacity and eliminate bottlenecks. Developing the Middle Corridor is expected to boost trade, support economic development, and strengthen regional connectivity.
“It shouldn’t be just a corridor, but a market and economic system, so that other sectors, not necessarily related to transportation, can benefit from this,” told Mirek Dušek, Managing Director at the World Economic Forum, Travel Tomorrow during the AIF 2023.

The forum will also address growing concerns over energy security, particularly concerning geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. Discussions will focus on ensuring a stable and diversified energy supply, investing in resilient infrastructure, and balancing economic development with environmental sustainability.
Experts from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United Nations (UN) will provide insights into securing long-term energy stability while expanding access to clean energy worldwide.
Advancing innovation and green technology
AIF 2025 will showcase cutting-edge technological innovations driving the green transition. Topics will include energy storage solutions, hydrogen power, carbon capture and storage (CCS), and digital innovations for energy efficiency.
Kazakhstan is making strides in renewable energy development, with large-scale wind and solar projects in the pipeline. The forum is expected to attract global investors and businesses eager to explore sustainable energy partnerships.
Strengthening global climate cooperation
As the world faces escalating climate challenges, AIF 2025 will serve as a platform for fostering international collaboration. Key discussions will center on aligning climate policies, sharing sustainability best practices, and securing financial support for developing nations transitioning to clean energy.
The forum is expected to conclude with key policy recommendations and commitments that could influence energy and sustainability strategies for Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and the global economy.
With just three months to go, anticipation is building for AIF 2025, where world leaders will collaborate on solutions for a more sustainable and energy-secure future.
