Tasty, healthy food that comes at a reasonable price is often seen as a hard combination to find, but it’s becoming increasingly common and there is now considerably more choice for those who want to enjoy a meal out whilst being careful with both their diet and their bank account.
We’ve selected 5 healthy and well-priced restaurants, with the quality stamp of the Fighting Obesity through Offer and Demand (FOOD) programme, an initiative of Edenred Group, for you to enjoy in the Belgian capital. Bon appétit!
1. Le StandBy
A great lunchtime spot to stop and refuel whilst out seeing the sites of Brussels, Le StandBy is a comfortable and stylish restaurant conveniently located in the centre of the city. They offer a special selection of well-priced healthy lunchtime meals on their menu, as well as a large variety of tasty salads, main dishes, bagels, sandwiches and more to cover a range of tastes and diets.
2. Dolma Restaurant
Describing itself as ‘Infinitely Veggie’, Dolma Restaurant offers both a lunch and dinner menu filled with super healthy vegetables and yummy flavours, plus there’s also an all you can eat buffet option for those who just can’t get enough! The restaurant began in 1973, focusing on macrobiotic cuisine and its teaching, and nowadays serves exclusively vegetarian and vegan cuisine. There is also a Dolma shop selling plenty of healthy food products to try.
3. La Tsampa
Open since 1973, La Tsampa creates gourmet vegetarian cuisine from quality, healthy and natural food, with organic and vegetarian ethics. Their service is Take-Away, so it’s perfect if you’re in a rush or want to sit and soak up the city atmosphere while munching on some delicious food. Like Dolma, they also have a shop where you can purchase wholesome and tasty products to try creating your own nutritious meals!
4. La Rose Blanche
If you’re looking to discover traditional Belgian cuisine with fresh and healthy ingredients, La Rose Blanche is ideal. The Chef uses fresh Belgian products delivered daily from around the country to prepare the dishes, which change according to the season. The menu includes must-try classics, from moules frites to duck with sweet cherries. Ok, it’s not very salad orientated, but it is classic food with good quality ingredients, and the view out onto the Grand Place just makes it better!
5. Ricotta & Parmesan
Since 1999 Ricotta & Parmesan has been serving up delicious, healthy Italian cuisine in a cosy and authentic setting. Their menu offers a mouth-watering variety of dishes, from charcuterie and cheeses to antipasti, and when it comes to their sauces and pasts there are plenty of vegetarian options too. They also offer various specialties from different regions of Italy, so you can take a gastro tour of the country without leaving your table!
