Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea and is certainly the most famous of all Greek islands, often classed as one of the best summer destinations worldwide. The beauty of this island is arguably incomparable to any other in the world, and it is know for its picturesque blue and white landscape. The amazing Caldera formed by the volcanic eruption centuries ago resulted in the most amazing sea view, which contrasts with the stunning white houses. The best places to stay in Santorini are the towns of Fira, Oia, Imerovigli, and Firostefani, all located along the caldera cliff on the western side of the island and all with wonderful views of the volcano and caldera. 1. Blue Domes viewpoint
This is a famous spot in Oia and a great place to pose, whether its to take selfies or some snaps with your loved ones. You can spot some blue domes in Oia, but you must be patient as it is usually crowded here. Sunset is of course the best time to capture the beauty of this place.
2. Streets of Oia
While visiting Oia you will love walking around the tiny small streets with their vibrant flowers. If you are lucky to find a place without too many people, you can certainly take the perfect picture with a combinations of gorgeous colours.
3. Vlychada Beach
Vlychada Beach is located 13 km from Fira. Here you can enjoy the contrasting shallow clear water against the black volcanic sand. What makes this beach special is the cliff in the background, which really adds the finishing touches to the photo.
4. Castle of Oia
One of the best sunset spots in Oia is the Castle of Oia. The best time slot is earlier in the morning or in the evening until sunset. Although this place is called the Castle of Oia don’t expect to find a castle, only a small piece of the castle remains as it was ruined by an earthquake, but it hints at the history of the place.
5. Perissa Beach
Like Vlychada Beach, Perissa beach has also clear water, dark sand, and a beautiful cliff in the background. Here you can soak up the sun or just relax under one of the umbrellas for hire and enjoy a fresh cocktail. But don’t forget your objective; taking pictures for your Instagram profile.
6. Anastasi Ortodox Church
A lot of people agree that this spot is probably the best Instagrammable place in Santorini. Here you can capture two iconic things from Santorini in one frame; blue domes and beautiful bougainvillea, or you can focus on the stark white of the building. Don’t forget to take some selfies here!
7. Akrotiri Lighthouse
If at any time you’re not sure where you are, look for the Akrotiri lighthouse. Then take a selfie to remember this beautiful place, day or night!
8. Three Bells of Fira
Three Bells of Fira is a church dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is an iconic place in Santorini and has featured in many postcards, calendars and posters, and now of course on your Instagram account.
9. Agios Nikolaos Theokokaki
Agios Nikolaos Theokokaki is another beautiful church in Pyrgos. This church has a blue dome and a tall bell towel. You can see the church clearly from the street, offering several different angles for your photographs.
10. Red Beach
If you have had enough of seeing blue everywhere, you can head to the Red Beach near Akrotiri village. The red sand and red hills of this beach make for an extraordinary background, and are an interesting change from the blue and white of the rest of the island.
