When you belong to the happy few wealthy people on this planet, you get to make tough choices. Imagine: you’ve just decided you are going to buy a private plane. Great. Yet now you’ll have to make a choice when it comes to the model, the color of the seats, the number of passengers, etc. Life can be hard sometimes. And what to do if you’ve already got several houses, a private plane, a yacht and who know what else? Well, you could think about buying your own personal luxury submarine, for example. We’re sure all you friends will be impressed.
When imagining a submarine, chances are you’ve got this stereotypical image in mind. You know, the one where the whole machine is made out of steel, where there’s hardly a window to be found and where living conditions are Spartan, to say the least. Surely, that’s not something you would be interested in, and we get why. But what if you could get to experience the aquatic life in premium conditions? What if you could even organise a party under the sea? What if we could all live in a yellow submarine?

UWEP submarine
Well, thanks to U-Boat Worx, a company that makes private submarines, this could all become a reality. Their new model is called UWEP, an acronym for Under Water Entertainment Platform, and it is everything you’ve ever dreamed of and more. The submarine offers no less than 150 square metres of floor area and looks like something out of a movie. There’s room for 120 passengers (all your friends and family) plus staff and its looks are just outstanding.

The exterior looks like a modern versions of The Beatles’ yellow submarine while the inside reminds us more of a fancy restaurant. Oh and there are a lot of windows, making sure you can experience the underwater life from up close. As if all of that wasn’t enough, there’s a fancy viewing deck to be enjoyed on the outside whenever the submarine isn’t actually fully submerged. Sunset apéro, anyone?

Let’s dive into some technical details. First, you’ll be glad to hear that the submarine can stay afloat for trips as long as 18 hours in a row, with an emergency battery prolonging that to a whopping 96 hours if needed. The UWEP can go as deep as 200 meters below sea level and travel at 2,5 knots or 4,6 kilometres an hour underwater. No speed devil clearly, yet that’s not necessarily what you’d want from your luxury underwater vehicle. Sadly, we’ve got little idea what the UWEP would actually cost as prices aren’t disclosed. But if we had to guess, we’d say it wouldn’t be for most of us…
