The results of the European Best Destination 2023 competition have been revealed and the results are undeniable: Warsaw is the best European destination to visit this year.
More than 400 cities entered the competition, out of which 21 were pre-selected by the organisers based on the cultural and touristic offer of the destinations as well as their quality of life, their sustainable development and growth of popularity on social networks during the past 12 months. Over a period of 21 days, over half a million travellers from 178 countries voted for their favourite city to visit this year.
Warsaw saw a record number of 142,081 votes, 66,439 more than Ljubljana got last year an all time high in the history of the competition. The only destination that got close to such a number in the past was Porto, in 2017, with 138,116 votes.
Beautiful, friendly, green, open-minded, perfect for a family city break, a cultural city break, a shopping experience, a romantic stay, Warsaw, your European Best Destinations 2023 has something to offer to everyone.

Moreover, the Polish capital received 68% of the votes from outside its own country, showing a true appreciation for the city. Even without national votes, Warsaw would have still got first place, so there is no denying it fully deserves the award.
Overall, this year’s edition saw the largest ever share of votes coming from outside Europe (52%), with less than half (48%) coming from within. This shows that, more than ever, foreign travellers have a strong interest in travelling to Europe. Warsaw was the preferred destination of American, Irish, Austrian, English and Australian travellers.
For the past 14 years, “European Best Destinations” has been working with major European tourist offices to showcase the beauty of Europe. From iconic capitals, cosmopolitan cities, to hidden charming locations surrounded by nature, warming locals and interesting food, there is no doubt that Europe has a vast amount of richness in culture and traditions.
Once the voting period ends, 20 destinations are named Europe’s best for the year, with the winner enjoying a special place on European Best Destination’s website until 31 December, as well as promotion by the project’s media partners.
