Since word got out about Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez planning their wedding in Venice over the summer, many media outlets have been speculating about the guest list and the possible disruption the event may cause for residents and tourists alike. However, the Mayor of Venice and the city council are now officially denying those rumours.
Two years after their engagement, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and helicopter pilot Lauren Sánchez are ready to tie the knot. As can be expected from Bezos’ $200 billion fortune, the event will be grand and the guest list will be star-studded – with some claiming the presence of Ivanka Trump, Kim Kardashian and even President Donald Trump himself.
“I think it’s gonna be like a Princess Di thing. Just huge and fun, and just a blast. I’m thrilled beyond belief. It’s gonna be an amazing event. It’s gonna be star-studded and fun”, Lauren’s brother Paul Sánchez told TMZ.
Wedding date still unconfirmed
The couple has not shared the precise date of the wedding nor the exact location, but according to Page Six, the event will take place in Venice, Italy, over the summer. News agency AP reported that some Italian media have managed to find out the specific dates — 24 to 26 June — yet nothing has been confirmed.
When it became known that they would hold the ceremony in Venice, rumours of a complete city disruption alarmed residents and tourists alike. In a statement to People magazine, Venice’s Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and the city council denied that a large number of hotels and gondolas had been rented out to the wedding party.
“We are mutually working and supporting the organizers, to ensure that the event will be absolutely respectful of the fragility and uniqueness of the city,” Luigi Brugnaro told People.
The city council added that the “speculations and fake news circulating about Jeff Bezos’ wedding are completely unfounded”. They also specified the city would function as normal, with no-one experiencing abnormal disruption.
Siamo contenti che @JeffBezos abbia scelto #Venezia per celebrare le proprie nozze. Sarà un matrimonio esclusivo, rispettoso della fragilità e dell’unicità della Città.

According to the information obtained by the city of Venice, approximately 200 people have been invited to the Bezos-Sánchez wedding. A relatively small number of attendees when compared to the G20 and G7 summits or the Architecture and Cinema Biennales the city hosts on a regular basis.
“Venice is used to being the stage for events and shows every week, without significant impacts,” the city said.
With multiple locations in Venice able to host a 200-person party and plenty of hotels to accommodate them, there should be ample space left for both residents and visitors.
