Uber has announced it will be partnering with Joby Aviation in order to offer all-electric air taxis. The service is set to take off in Dubai before the end of 2026 and will be available directly through the Uber app.
On Wednesday, 25 February 2026 – before Dubai was hit by Iranian missiles as a retaliation for the U.S.-Israel attack on Iran – transportation company Uber announced it would be partnering with Joby Aviation to launch an all-electric air taxi service in Dubai before the end of 2026.
“We’ve long believed in the power of advanced air mobility to transform how people move through cities. With Uber Air, riders will be able to book Joby’s electric air taxi through a simple and familiar, one-tap experience on Uber, seamlessly connecting every leg of their journey – making ground-to-sky travel even more effortless”, said Sachin Kansal, Chief Product Officer at Uber.

Although the launch of the air taxis will mark a huge milestone for the two companies, Uber and Joby have been working together since 2019. Joby even bought Uber’s Elevate division in 2021 in order to develop urban air mobility options.
“We set out to build a new layer of urban transportation. Our focus has always been on creating a flight experience that operates quietly and integrates naturally into the rhythm of city life. By partnering with Uber, we’re making this new mode of transportation familiar and accessible, connecting the ground and the sky through a system designed to save people time and fit seamlessly into how they already move”, said Eric Allison, Chief Product Officer at Joby.
Details for the air taxi service
Although an exact launch date has not yet been shared, some details about the air taxis have already been made available. The taxis will be flown by commercial pilots and will offer seating to a maximum of four people and their luggage. Six tilting propellers will allow for a vertical takeoff, and the vehicles will be able to travel at a maximum speed of up to 320 kilometres per hour, with a 160-kilometre range.

At the moment of writing, four so-called ‘vertiports’ where the taxis will be able to land and take off have been planned in Dubai: Dubai International Airport, Dubai Mall, Atlantis The Royal on Palm Jumeirah, and American University of Dubai. Joby has obtained an agreement with Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority allowing it to be the sole air taxi provider in Dubai for the next six years.
Pricing for the all-electric air taxis should be similar to the price paid for Uber Black services, and an all-inclusive, per-passenger upfront pricing will be visible before booking through the Uber app.
