1. Residents of Belgium
Until 1 March, non-essential travel to other countries is forbidden to persons whose primary residence is located in Belgium.
What types of travel are regarded as essential?
- Travel for professional reasons
- Travel undertaken by diplomats, ministers, Heads of State and Government; travel undertaken by the staff of international organisations and institutions and by people invited by international organisations and institutions; travel undertaken by the staff of diplomatic and consular posts and by people invited by these posts; travel undertaken by members of the European Parliament when performing their duties
- Travel for compelling family reasons
- Travel for humanitarian reasons
- Study-related travel
- Travel that forms part of the everyday life of border municipalities and border regions
- Travel to take care of animals
- Travel in connection with legal obligations
- Travel to have urgent repairs carried out in the context of vehicle safety
- Travel in the context of moving house
- Travel for transit purposes
If travelling for an essential reason, you must fulfil the following requirements:
- You must be in possession of a completed sworn statement. You must carry the sworn statement with you at all times.
- Did you stay abroad for more than 48 hours or are you returning to Belgium by air or boat, or by train or bus from a country outside the EU or the Schengen Area? Fill in the Passenger Locator Form at the earliest 48 hours before you arrive in Belgium.
- Based on the answers you give and the colour code of the country you are departing from, the form will work out whether you are regarded as a high-risk contact.
- Did you receive a text message? If so, you are a high-risk contact. You must quarantine. Get tested on day 1 and day 7 of quarantine. You will receive a code for this by text message.
- What if you didn’t receive a text message? You do not have to quarantine.
- Did you complete the paper version of the Passenger Locator Form? If so, you will be contacted by phone.
Travel for professional purposes: when travelling for professional purposes, your Belgian employer or client can fill in the Business Travel Abroad (BTA) form.

2. Non-residents
This applies to persons having the nationality or the main residence in a country of the EU or the Schengen zone, as well as to persons having their main residence in a third country listed on this website.

- You must have a negative PCR test that was carried out at the earliest 72 hours before your departure from a red zone to Belgium.

- Exception: if you are not travelling by air, train, bus or boat and will be spending less than 48 hours in Belgium, no PCR test is required.

Regulations for arrivals 🛄
As of August, 1st, all persons returning to Belgium and all persons travelling through Belgium and who are staying at least 48 hours must fill out an identification form (Passenger Locator Form).
