On 5 July 2025, China’s first Legoland resort has opened its doors in Shanghai. The newest Legoland location is the biggest of the current 11 parks across the world (while more are underway) and marks the diplomatic relations between China and Denmark.
Located in Fengjing Town, Jinshan District, the new Legoland resort in Shanghai is looking to offer the ultimate Lego experience for children aged 2-12 and their families. Across 318,000 square meteres, visitors can find a theme park as well as a hotel, divided into eight ‘lands’.
Thanks to over 75 interactive rides, shows, and attractions, the resort is the perfect day or weekend destination, and Lego fans will be able to enjoy thousands of LEGO models built with over 85 million LEGO bricks.
“Our deep understanding of the Chinese consumer and our experience of operating in China for over a decade has allowed us to create LEGOLAND Shanghai as the ultimate theme park and hotel destination. It blends the tried and tested LEGOLAND experience, which is so successful across our parks from Denmark to Dubai, with rich Chinese cultural elements, creating a destination that is both globally recognisable and locally resonant, connecting children with their heritage through imaginative play,” says Fiona Eastwood, Chief Executive Officer of Merlin Entertainments.

A special opening week
On the opening day, Legoland characters Mike and Amy were joined by thousands of visitors, as well as representatives from the Shanghai and Jinshan Governments, Merlin Entertainments, The LEGO® Group, and New Jinshan Investment Group.
During the first opening week of the Legoland Shanghai Resort, visitors will be able to enjoy the a special ‘Grand Opening Week’ program from 5 to 13 July. Themed decorations, immersive experiences, and exclusive offers will set the tone, as the Lego Plaza will come to life though daily shows and meet-and-greet moments. Limited time mini-figure swaps, exclusive merchandise, special discounts, and LEGO treats will be available at the resort.
Some of the park’s attractions are exclusive to Legoland Shanghai. For example, during the world-first water-town style boat tour, guests are welcomed to cruise through 25x scale LEGO Chinese water town and modern Shanghai cityscapes, which are all built from LEGO bricks, and the resort also debuts the Legoland Creative World.

Aside from the activities, guests will also be able to discover six restaurants, tens of food stands, and ten retail stores on-site providing a wide range of dining and shopping options. The experience can be extended by a sleepover at Legoland Hotel, where guests are greeted by Ollie the Dragon and can partake in a number of themed events.
“Legoland Shanghai will be an integral part of the LEGO ecosystem in China and a great addition to our retail network and brand events enhancing the immersive and interactive LEGO play experiences for our customers. I look forward to LEGOLAND Shanghai becoming a new cultural landmark for family interaction and bringing unique joy to all LEGO fans in China and beyond,” states Mr. Niels B. Christiansen, President & Chief Executive Officer of the LEGO Group.

According to Zhuang Jian, Chairman of Shanghai New Jinshan Investment Share Holding Group Co., Ltd., the park injects new vitality into the tourism market of Jinshan and even Shanghai, and is expected to attract more domestic and international tourists to the region. Moreover, the opening coincides with the 75th anniversary marking the diplomatic relations between China and Denmark.
