December has started and, with it, the countdown to Christmas has oficially begun. Many of us celebrate this with an Advent calendar of some kind, filled with chocolates, toiletry products or even beers. But what if you could get in the Christmas mood by staying in the one and only Santa Claus’ Cabin? And what if you could get a taste of what it’s like to work at Santa Claus’ Main Post Office? Well, thanks to Airbnb, a lucky family will now get that chance.
Every Christmas, the elves at Santa Claus’ Post Office get about 30,000 letters which are in need of an answer before the big day. The office in Rovaniemi, Finland, has been operating sine the 1980’s and is run by the Finnish postal services. Visitors can get a look behind the scenes year-round but it’s now, during December, that you can get the best taste of what running Santa Claus’ Post Office is really like.
“The elves have been working around the clock to transform Santa Claus’ Cabin into a winter wonderland. We want this to be a magical and immersive experience for a family in search of the ultimate yuletide experience. Not only will guests get to sleep in Santa Claus’ Cabin, they’ll also get a sneak peek behind the scenes of the world’s Official Santa Claus’ Post Office during our liveliest time of the year”, Katja, Chief Elf of Santa Claus’ Main Post Office and Airbnb Host said.
Santa Claus’ cabin is located only a few steps away from his post office, tucked away within the Arctic Circle. Luckily, thanks to the cozy arrangements of the elves, including a roaring fire and elf clothes, guests won’t be cold during their stay.
“Staying in Santa Claus’ Cabin in the Arctic Circle, amidst the magic of Finland, is not just a holiday, it’s a journey to the heart of the holiday spirit. We’re thrilled that the Chief Elf has decided to share their space on Airbnb and invite a family to experience this unique festive stay, where they’ll help sort through Christmas letters from children worldwide and participate in unforgettable adventures like snowmobile excursions, northern lights sightings and traditional saunas – creating memories that will last a lifetime along the way”, said Amanda Cupples, General Manager of Northern Europe at Airbnb.
Those who are lucky enough to be able to book the stay on December 11th from 10:00 AM GMT, will enjoy a free holiday. However, you’ll need to cancel your plans from December 18th until December 21st and cover your voyage to London Heathrow Airport. From there, thanks to Visit Finland, you’ll be flown into Rovaniemi. The cabin allows for a maximum of two adults and two children and your stay includes both breakfasts and dinners.
As part of the special event, Airbnb will make a one-time donation to Special Children’s Omaiset ELO, a peer support association aimed at Lappish children and young people with special needs and their loved ones.
