Belgian rail infrastructure manager Infrabel will be doing major maintenance work on the route to Brussels Airport Zaventem, meaning the number of trains serving the airport railway station will be diminished between 15 November and 9 December 2025.
Passengers travelling to and from the Brussels-Airport Zaventem railway station in Belgium between 15 November and 9 December 2025 are advised to check the updated train schedules. As infrastructure manager, Infrabel will be renewing rails, sleepers, and a concrete slab supporting switches near the airport; the train traffic to and from Brussels-Airport Zaventem is expected to be heavily impacted. The works include changing ive switches, 800 meters of track, and 1,200 meters of rail.
Impacted routes
Some train routes in particular will be impacted by the renovation works in Zaventem, with trains either not stopping at the airport station or having an adapted time schedule. Train traffic in general between Brussels, the European Quarter, Zaventem and Leuven in general will be impacted, and passengers should thus check the new timetables:
- IC Brussels Airport–Namur–Dinant
- IC Knokke–Brussels–Liège-Guillemins
- IC Tournai–Brussels–Brussels Airport
- Eurocity Brussels–Rotterdam
- S19 Landen–Brussels–Nivelles
While the largest part of the impact is expected between 15 November and 9 December 2025, when the works will be carried out, some schedule changes are also to be expected in the weekend from 8 to 9 November (when the building materials will be delivered) and in the weekend from 13 and 14 December (when the last details are expected to be finished).
Passengers who want to travel between Zaventem Station and Brussels Airport Zaventem are also invited to take Bus R26 or Bus 82, operated by Flemish transport public transport company De Lijn. A train ticket to or from the airport will give them free access to the bus service, which takes approximately six minutes. According to the information provided by Belgian railway company SNCB, there are six to ten buses per hour on weekdays, three per hour on Saturdays, and two per hour on Sundays.
The renovation is the second part of a series of rail works on the route to Brussels Airport Zaventem. The first part of those renovations started at the beginning of 2025 and was successfully brought to an end in March 2025. During that time, rail services serving the airport station were heavily impacted as well.
