Czech airline Smartwings has just launched a new direct scheduled service between Brussels Zaventem Airport and Prague Václav Havel Airport, with up to twelve flights per week.
The new route, which was inaugurated on 26 October, aims to strengthen air links between the Czech Republic and the capital of Europe, a move most welcome by both business and leisure travellers.
The country’s largest airline now operates two daily flights on weekdays, one in the morning and one in the evening, a frequency ideal for Eurocrats, businesspeople, diplomats or tourists looking to explore the cities’ cobbled streets and historical centres without taking too many days off work. Each journey takes just one and a half hours.

Outbound flights from Brussels depart at 8:55 am and 7:30 pm, while flights in the other direction will leave Prague at 6:40 am and 5:15 pm. At weekends, Smartwings operates one flight on Saturday morning and another on Sunday evening.
All flights are operated by modern, fully efficient aircraft to ensure reliability and efficiency. Smartwings holds the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certification, which is an internationally recognised standard for airline safety.
Aside from efficiency, Smartwings also places emphasis on Czech hospitality. Passengers can pre-order meals inspired by local cuisine, such as schnitzel or a Czech-style sandwich, as well as a variety of desserts. Pre-ordering is available online up to 48 hours before departure and guarantees availability, avoiding the common situation where passengers at the wrong end of the plane are left with nothing but a sad sandwich. A range of snacks and beverages is also available on board.

A growing destination
Prague remains one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations. According to Prague Daily News, around 8.1 million visitors travelled to the Czech capital in 2024, which is a 9% increase on the previous year. This upward trend shows no sign of slowing; in the second quarter of 2025, CzechTourism reported that domestic hotels, guesthouses, and other accommodation facilities welcomed 6.3 million guests, suggesting that 2025 may surpass last year’s record.
“The increased interest in our country is good news and confirms the effectiveness of our strategy aimed at attracting tourists from distant and creditworthy markets,” said František Reismüller, director of the Czech Tourist Authority – CzechTourism. The country recorded 360,000 visitors from the Benelux countries in 2024.
In May 2025, even King Philippe of Belgium paid a one-day visit to the Czech Republic to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Pilsen, where a Belgian battalion helped to repel Nazi troops. The city is also the birthplace of the world-famous Pilsner beer, which is another connection between the two countries.
Return flights start from around €150, making Smartwings a competitive option compared to other carriers on the route. The airline’s budget-friendly ‘Lite’ fare includes one piece of hand luggage (up to 8 kg), with checked baggage available for an additional fee.
The Prague – Brussels route is part of Smartwings’ expanding European network, which includes new routes to Barcelona, Porto, Bucharest, Bilbao, Toulouse and Rome, as well as increased frequencies to popular destinations such as Paris and Málaga.
