For many culture freaks, there’s nothing like spending a night out at the opera. You start by getting in the mood by drinking a little aperitif beforehand, then you catch a show and then you stop by your favorite restaurant for a late-night dinner. That’s what a night at the opera usually implies and honestly, we wouldn’t say no. But thanks to Airbnb and the Opéra Garnier, two lucky souls will get the chance to actually sleep in the famous opera’s official box, surrounded by luxury and with an unforgettable view of the stage.
Airbnb has been putting cultural heritage sites in the spotlight for quite some time now and the principle is usually pretty much the same. There’s one night up for grabs, for a rather cheap price and there’s only a couple of lucky bastards who actually get a chance to stay over. Sites are always magnificent and that’s not different this time, with the Opéra Garnier. A suite will be arranged in the official box and that room is everything we thought it would be. Grand, golden and red. Maybe a bit too kitsch for our everyday lives, but after all, you’re in an opera and it’s just for one night.
Dance and dine
But there’s not just the room you’ll be applying for – we’re talking about a whole experiencing. Dinner will be held in the magnificent Foyer de la Danse, a grand backstage hall where dancers rehearse and warm up just before going on stage. You’ll get a tour of the private archives of the Opéra Garnier and you’ll get to see its mystical underground lake. You’ll get to be present during a recital of the Académie de l’Opéra de Paris, accompanied of course by a glass of champagne. And yes, you will get the chance to rehearse your own dancing skills as well. All in all, the dream of every opera and dance fanatic.
What’s the catch?
So, what’s the catch? You’ll have to check the Airbnb website on March 1st, at 6 PM CET sharp. Just one lucky duo will get the chance of actually living out their dream and your stay will take place on July 16th 2023.
You’ll have to pay 37 euros plus taxes (which aren’t specified on the website), a reference to the official box’ number. You’ll also have to be older than 18 and have a verified Airbnb account, as the environment in which you’ll get to spend the night is pretty precious and has therefore to be handled with care.
