As spring break arrives in Florida, Orlando International Airport is preparing to receive more than 7 million travellers. If those numbers are met, 2024 will become the airport’s busiest spring break period ever.
In December 2023, Orlando International Airport saw a new daily passenger record with 98,521 departing passengers screened at security checkpoints on 30 December and the success of the airport doesn’t seem to be fading anytime soon.
With 7.6 million travellers expected over the 44-day spring break period, which officially started on 24 February and lasts until 7 April, passengers should be prepared to come on time and to be patient. A survey carried out on behalf of the American Automobile Association (AAA) has found that around 29% of Florida residents are planning to take a spring break trip, many of them choosing to head to the coastline. Easter Sunday, which falls on 31 March this year, will be particularly charged.
“We expect to set a new spring break benchmark with more than 7.6 million passengers. This growth is actually a continuation of what we saw in 2023. For the year, we shattered all passenger records with more than 57.7 million travellers”, Kevin J. Thibault, Greater Orlando Aviation Authority CEO, said in a statement.
In order to be as prepared as possible for this 11% increase compared to last year and for everything to go as smoothly as possible, the airport is reminding travellers of the 3-2-1 rule: passengers should arrive at their airline’s ticket counter approximately three hours before departure, head to security around two hours before take-off and schedule to be near the gate one hour before boarding.
