The Lufthansa Group had announced the gradual resumption of its flights to and from Tel Aviv starting 23 June, following a two-month suspension triggered by escalating tensions in the region. However, the recent outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Iran could now place those plans in jeopardy.
Last month, after conducting joint security assessments with national and international authorities, the Lufthansa Group revealed its intention to gradually reinstate flights to Tel Aviv by late June. Each carrier within the group is expected to resume operations according to its own schedule. Brussels Airlines will not be part of the initial relaunch phase. Passengers holding reservations for affected June flights are eligible for refunds or rebooking on alternative routes within the Lufthansa network.
The Belgian airline halted its Tel Aviv service in early May, following a Houthi missile strike near Ben Gurion Airport that injured several people and raised serious concerns over flight safety. That incident prompted an immediate suspension of flights by multiple international airlines, including all members of the Lufthansa Group, along with Ryanair and Wizz Air.
The situation has further deteriorated following a sharp escalation in hostilities between Israel and Iran. On Friday morning, Israel launched large-scale airstrikes against what it described as Iranian military and nuclear sites, prompting retaliatory drone attacks from Iran targeting Israeli territories. Regional tensions have since risen to alarming levels.
