The new Microlino, a three- or four-wheeled electric mini-car with a range of 90 to 230 km, will soon be available in Belgium. It will be distributed by auto dealer D’Ieteren as of 2023. The 2.52-m electric car is powered by a 12.5 kW electric motor, which is fed by a 6, 10.5 or 14 kWh battery. This allows the vehicle, which weighs at most 530 kg on the scale, to theoretically travel 91, 177 and 230 km, respectively.
These days, the size, weight, volume and complexity of cars are all elements that can impede traffic and are detrimental to energy consumption and thus mobility efficiency. According to D’leteren, drivers travel on average 35 km per day; almost 90% of the time the car is stationary and its occupancy rate does not exceed 1.2 people.
We continue to work towards our ambitious goal of reducing CO2 emissions in the mobility solutions we offer.
Denis Gorteman, CEO of D’Ieteren Automotive
The Microlino is a new type of small electric city car that will appeal to advocates of emission-free mobility. D’Ieteren sees the Microlino as the opportunity to venture into a new segment in urban mobility, filling the gap between a car and two-wheel vehicles. Demand for four-wheeled micro-transportation is expected to increase and alternative mobility modes will continue to develop.
The most recent model of the Microlino has an integral body structure made out of pressed steel and aluminum parts allows a higher stiffness and safety without increasing the weight. This type of construction improves quality, longevity and safety over the classic tubular frames usually used in microcars. The small city car is built at the company’s own factory in Turin, Italy.
At 2.5 meters long, the Microlino finds a place to charge almost anywhere, and would take three to four hours to charge (depending on the battery type) via an ordinary wall outlet. The small electric motor can transport two passengers and a fully loaded trunk.
Sales will happen online. While the Microlino will be presented at the Brussels Motor Show (January 13th to 22nd, 2023), the first units will be delivered to Belgian customers during the first half of 2023. The first showroom in Belgium will be located in the buildings of the importer’s headquarters, on Rue du Mail in Ixelles. Prices start at around €14,900.
