Two American tourists went viral on TikTok after boarding a flight to Tunis, Tunisia, instead of Nice, France. Brittney Dzialo and her friend, expecting a quick trip from Rome to the French Riviera, ended up on a journey to North Africa due to a mix-up.
In a TikTok video that amassed tens of millions of views, Dzialo shared the moment a fellow passenger informed them mid-flight that they were headed to Tunis, not Nice. However, a later clip showed one of them calling the incident “the most horrible experience of my life.”
According to what they said, the confusion began after the pair missed their original flight from Rome to Nice. Brittney Dzialo and her friend said they asked the airline if they could rebook their flight. At the airport, they were directed to Tunisair, the national carrier of Tunisia. Unaware of the misunderstanding, they purchased tickets to Tunis, assuming it was their intended destination.

The tourists claimed that they did not realize their mistake until after they were on the plane and another passenger told them the flight was going to Tunis. After finding out, the girls searched for Tunis on their phones. A flight attendant confirmed they weren’t going to Nice, and with the plane taxiing, they were told to resolve it in Tunis.
After multiple conversations with airline staff and several hours at the Tunis airport, the two women were finally able to get on a flight to their original destination. The creator’s caption read, “The whole plane witnessed our spiral and either found it entertaining or hated us.”

Aviation experts and online viewers are sceptical, finding it hard to believe the two travellers missed every indication of the flight’s destination, such as the boarding passes, gate displays, and in-flight announcements. The well-made videos and dramatic storytelling have led some to believe that the event was a social media stunt designed to go viral regardless of whether the confusion was genuine or not.
“This is hard to believe,” one user wrote. “How would you not notice the destination on the ticket???” More questions kept coming from bewildered commentators. “Did you not see the big screen that said ‘Tunis’ at the gate?” wrote another. “Did either of you look at your boarding passes? Strange.”
