Invisibility is something we’ve all dreamt about at least once in our lives but sadly, there’s no way just yet for us mortals to make ourselves invisible to others. However, there is a house hidden somewhere in Joshua Tree in the United States which comes as close as possible right now to the challenge. Unsurprisingly, it’s dubbed the Invisible House and if you’ve got a lot of money to spare, it could be yours for the very modest sum of $18 million. So what does one get for that kind of money?
Chances are, this is not the first time you’re hearing about the surprising building. Since its construction in 2019 by film producers Chris and Roberta Hanley, the house has gotten a lot of international attention. It was not only featured in the Netflix series ‘The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rental’ yet many celebrities have spent the night in the box-like construction, amongst who Lizzo, Alicia Keys, Ariana Grande and The Weeknd. However, it was also available for rent to us normal human beings, even though that cost a small fortune: 1.000 dollars an hour, 6.000 dollars a day or 150.000 dollars a month.
Why so much, you ask? Well, the invisibility of the house and the price of the estate have much to do with the remarkable design, which Chris Hanley designed with Tomas Osinski, a collaborator of Frank Gehry. The walls of the building are entirely made out of glass, giving it an alienesque outlook and making sure it blends perfectly with the splendid surrounding nature. You may not get a lot of privacy in return but who needs that if you can see the sun set from literally each and every room in your house? Practically, the Invisible House has three rooms and four bathrooms, which admittedly isn’t that much for the price you’re paying. There is however an indoor pool for you to enjoy, so there’s that.
At the moment, as said before, the price for the building is set on 18 million dollars, which would make it the most expensive house ever to sell in Joshua Tree, which has long been a fairly affordable retreat for artists, until the pandemic hit. With a median price of 343.000 dollars for a house, however, the Invisible House doesn’t really paint a realistic budget picture of the area either. If you’ve got the money and if you’ve always dreamt of living amidst nature, this could actually be the chance of a lifetime.
