Living in a castle, it’s something we’ve all dreamed about when we were kids. Books, Disney movies, series… They all let us believe that it should be your ultimate goal in life to become a prince, princess, or other and spend your days being served by housekeepers and dressing up in pompous gowns. That there’s nothing better on Earth than having a big property with twenty bedrooms, five-meter-high ceilings, and portraits of your forefathers on the wall above the stairs. Yet, on second thought, maybe it’s not that fun after all.
Of course, we’ve never had the chance to experience this kind of life ourselves and therefore everything we’re about to say is just speculation. But after having seen quite a few TikTok videos by the Italian teenager Ludovica Sannazzaro (also known as @thecastlediary on social media), we’re bound to say that castle life is not that glamorous after all and maybe a beautiful house will do just fine.
So, who’s, Ludovica Sannazzaro you ask? Well, she’s a 19-year old teenager living in the Castello Sannazzaro in Italy, a property that has been in her family for 28 generations. Her father actually inherited the castle in 1986 but the family didn’t move in until 2006, the year during which they opened a bed and breakfast in said property. That means Ludovica has been living in the castle since she was about four years old and during that time, she got to experience what it’s like to live the life we all dreamed about at least once.
Downsides
And if we may believe Ludovica, it’s not as glamorous as you would imagine. On TikTok, the teenager makes a great deal of ‘expectations vs. reality’-like videos, showing her followers that her family lives like any other family, they just happen to have a bigger home. For example, a lot of people think they would have housekeepers, serving up meals at their convenience, when it’s actually just her mom preparing the food. And it turns out that Ludovica, just like you and me, spends a great deal of time watching series on Netflix, sat on her couch. More even – castle life also has quite a few negative sides. When the doorbell rings, you almost never make it in time to catch the mailman. And no matter how hot or cold it is outside, inside, it’s almost always very chilly. And when you have to use the bathroom, you have to act quickly as it may take quite a while before you’ve reached your destination…
