After a forced suspension due to the renovation of Amsterdam Central Station since June 2024 during which passengers had to change trains in Brussels, Eurostar is now resuming its direct services between Amsterdam and London. However, starting from March 29th, the service will once again be suspended.
During the time of the building works, people travelling from Amsterdam to London had to first take a separate train to Brussels, where they then needed to pass border checks before changing to a Eurostar service.
The suspension, which was initially scheduled to last for eleven months, was necessary due to extensive renovation works on the Eurostar terminal at Amsterdam Central Station. The new terminal creates more space for UK-bound passengers. The terminal reopened on Monday, February 10th, and now allows for 400 passengers (a 10% increase) to leave Amsterdam on each service. By September, this number should have increased even more to 650 travellers.
“We are delighted that direct Eurostar services between Amsterdam and London are back. This is more than just a train journey – it is a seamless connection between two vibrant capitals, offering our customers an efficient, comfortable, and sustainable way to travel”, Gwendoline Cazenave, Eurostar’s chief executive, said in a statement.

At the moment, passengers travelling between Amsterdam and London can enjoy three daily return services on weekdays and Sundays, while there are two on Saturdays. Eurostar wants to increase this to five by 2026.
“Eurostar is proud to unveil this state-of-the-art terminal, reinforcing our commitment to providing a seamless, sustainable travel experience. We know we will welcome more passengers on board as we continue to grow our services and set the standards for connectivity across Europe. The tripling of capacity on the Netherlands-UK route is step one in a broader strategy to increase Eurostar’s network for customers all across Europe”, Cazenave continued.

However, on March 29th, the service will once again shut down for “essential works”, which should be over by the end of April when the direct connection will be fully functioning. Meanwhile, those travelling with Eurostar from London to Amsterdam can still enjoy a direct connection.
“Working closely with our European neighbours is a priority for this government, as we continue to ensure seamless passenger travel for those travelling to and from the UK, while protecting our borders. I am pleased to see the reinstatement of the direct Eurostar connection to London from the Netherlands. Our hardworking UK Border Force officers based in the Netherlands will ensure that our border security remains robust”, said Seema Malhotra, the UK migration minister.
