Portugal’s MICHELIN Guide restaurant selection was revealed during an event in Porto on 25th February. The country’s 2025 selection includes numerous restaurants, some of which were already recognised in previous editions, while others have been newly added to the list.
“After tasting countless dishes, our team concluded that chefs in Portugal seek to preserve their local gastronomic heritage, reinterpreting classic dishes with modern techniques. While the north of the country shows a greater attachment to traditional recipes, the south offers a harmonious blend of regional flavours and international trends”, Michelin writes.

Green stars
Portugal now has six Green Star restaurants, with one new addition this year.
“The MICHELIN Green Star is an annual award which highlights restaurants at the forefront of the industry when it comes to their sustainable practices. These restaurants offer dining experiences that combine culinary excellence with outstanding eco-friendly commitments and are a source of inspiration both for keen foodies and the hospitality industry as a whole”, Michelin explains.
The newest Green Star was awarded to Encanto, located in Lisbon. Led by renowned chef José Avillez, who also heads the two-star Belcanto, Encanto’s culinary philosophy focuses entirely on seasonal organic vegetables, many of which are sourced from small local producers, such as Casa Nossa farm in Alentejo.
