The Chinese army has authorized the use of a vaccine against Covid-19 among its soldiers. The vaccine prototype has been developed by a military research institute and a pharmaceutical company.
Laboratories around the world are competing to find a cure for the new coronavirus, first detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, China.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) reports that about half of the 17 vaccines currently in clinical trials around the world are being developed by Chinese institutes.
The Chinese company CanSinoBIO is collaborating with the Military Academy of Medical Sciences on a specialized coronavirus vaccine. The Chinese Central Military Commission the approved the use of the vaccine on the military on June 25th.
CanSinoBIO underlined in its press release that it is too early to guarantee whether the vaccine will be viable to reach the market.
“Data from clinical trials have shown high levels of humoral and cellular immune response,” the company said in a statement on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, where CanSinoBIO company is listed.
According to the WHO latest numbers, a total of 132 vaccines are in the pre-clinical evaluation phase.
