On Tuesday 6 September, the Global Tourism Forum (GTF), one of the most influential organizations in the world, is holding the European Leaders’ Summit for the second time in Brussels. This year’s edition, under the motto ‘Investment, Connectivity and Hospitality’ within the travel and tourism industry, will gather many CEOs, Chairmans, lobbyists representing the travel and tourism industry.
This Leaders Summit Europe is the right place at the right time to review what has been done already and even more importantly what still needs to be done to move forward to a more meaningful and sustainable tourism in Europe and around the world.
Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of the GTF.
1. This year’s program
Tourism is a major economic activity in the European Union (EU) with wide-ranging impact on economic growth, employment, and social development. It can be a powerful tool in fighting economic decline and unemployment.
The EU has worked hard to address these with strong policies and actions. Despite all the challenges, the outlook for 2021 and 2022 is for considerable recovery across Europe. This is good news for the rest of the world and, for developing countries with most tourism potential and demand, as chances are EU may become the poster child for the pent-up demand for travel and tourism reboot.
The Leaders Summit Europe 2022 takes place at the Radisson Collection Hotel, close to the Brussels’ Grand Place, and to attend in person you would need to spend $8000. GTF also provides a free streaming access.
2. What is the GTF?
The GTF is an international collaboration platform focused on addressing the challenges for the travel industry. Combining the joint efforts of government agencies, industry stakeholders and academia, GTF strives to achieve sustainable development models for emerging travel markets, as well as devising strategies to ensure tourism growth. They operate from London.
