A bomb threat on a Berlin-bound flight at Brussels Airport on Wednesday morning led to the temporary closure of a runway and the diversion of three other flights, federal police and airport authorities have confirmed.
The incident involved flight SN2581, an Airbus A220 operated by Air Baltic on behalf of Brussels Airlines. The aircraft was preparing for departure to Berlin when federal police alerted Brussels Airport about a possible threat.
Evacuation and search operation
Passengers and crew members were immediately evacuated and brought to safety, while the aircraft was moved to a remote location on the tarmac. Specialised police teams then carried out a full search of the plane.
Federal police later confirmed that no explosives were found. “Our colleagues on site evacuated the aircraft and searched it,” a spokesperson said.
Brussels Airport reported that the disruption was short-lived. “We briefly closed a runway and diverted three flights, but operations have now resumed,” the airport confirmed.

Passenger support
Brussels Airlines said that its Special Assistance Team had been deployed to support passengers and crew. “Everyone is safe,” the airline stressed. The plane in question is one of several Air Baltic Airbus A220s operating under Brussels Airlines until the end of October.
Investigation underway
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the origin of the threat. Federal police did not provide further details on how the alert was received but said the matter remains under review.
While the disruption caused some delays on Wednesday morning, the situation at Brussels Airport has since returned to normal.
