Swiss company Oppidum is building “ultra-luxury” bunkers under the houses of the richest people. The firm specialises in building strongholds for the wealthy, but has recently released designs for the new L’Heritage fortified underground residences meant for “the most powerful individuals in the world”.
Our vision at Oppidum is to build the world’s most beautiful and secure contemporary fortified residences.
Jakub Zamrazil, Founder & CEO
“It is human nature to desire security and protection: we are privileged to offer our clients the highest levels of service imaginable, creating beautiful places that will protect them now, and their legacy, for generations to come”, says the company’s founder and CEO Jakub Zamrazil.
The entrance to the luxury bunkers is guarded by custom-made blast doors, equipped with a multi-biometric reader that simultaneously scans your face, iris, palm and fingerprints. When the security system recognises the person, which the developers say happen immediately, the doors open automatically.
The residences are built 15 metres underground and, once inside, a 1,000 square metre space opens, with ceilings soaring almost 5 metres overhead, decorated with opulent hand-crafted glass chandeliers, custom-made furniture and laid with fine-grained, solid wood flooring.
The layout is customised for the needs of each client, with possibilities to include a family living room, private living area, dining room, lounge room, meeting room, pool and fitness area, home cinema, a private gallery and even a garden.
The entire bunker is illuminated by state of the art full-light spectrum simulation, which even creates sunrises and sunsets. This technology allows plants to thrive even underground. “A sanctuary within your sanctuary, in this seemingly magical space your favourite flowers – sustained by sophisticated automatic irrigation – delight and soothe the senses with their colours and perfumes.”
For the shelter technology, Oppidum partnered with Temet, the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of blast and CBRN protection technology. Established in Finland in 1953, the company has supplied expertise and equipment for some 50,000 projects in over 85 countries worldwide, including civil defence and private VIP shelters, critical infrastructure, government and defence buildings, nuclear power and petrochemical plants and other sensitive sites.
