There’s nothing like imagining what your favourite place, or maybe your hometown, looked like may many years ago. Places can change quickly, and Brussels is certainly a city which has done. Honouring this, Facebook group Le Vieux BXL dedicates itself to sharing old photos of Brussels from throughout history, allowing us a glimpse into the city’s many past lives.
Created three years ago by founder Kadir Gübüdük, the group already has almost 30,000 members who enjoy the photos of old Brussels, which he shares to the group after finding them on the internet. Members of the group can also share photos, and the subjects range from people, in their various fashions of the era, to classic cars, and animals pulling all manner of carts about the city. Brussels’ greatest buildings can also be spotted, including the iconic Grand Place, among others, as well as others which have not stood the test of time. We may not have mastered the time machine, but a perusal through these aged photos, or even this unique film, is nearly as good!
