Every year, new hotels open around the world that promise to redefine luxury, comfort and innovation, and this year is no different. Spanning from the sandy beaches of remote islands to the bustling hearts of metropolitan hubs, these establishments are much more than mere places to stay, they often are destinations in themselves, offering unique experiences tailored to each guest. While the list for this year is extensive, below are six of the most anticipated hotel openings of 2025:
1. The Lake Como EDITION, Lake Como, Italy
Bound to open its doors in spring 2025, the Lake Como location of Marriott’s EDITION collection is promises to transform a 19th-century gem into an intimate retreat that combines striking design and Italian warmth with a sophisticated luxury lifestyle experience.
The hotel features 145 guestrooms including two bespoke penthouse suites, a vibrant lobby bar, a floating pool and dining venues offering breathtaking views of Lake Como and the Bellagio mountains.
2. One&Only Moonlight Basin, Big Sky, Montana, USA
Also opening this spring is One&Only’s first US location. Set on almost 100 hectares within an over 3,200-hectare landscape, One&Only Moonlight Basin is bordered by the protected lands of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
Besides the 73 guestrooms and 19 villas, the resort also offers private homes in a residential community setting. Besides a collection of distinctive restaurants and bars, the Moonlisht Basin also offers a wellness centre complete with a hut tub, cold plunge, an open air heated pool and private beach beside a mirrored alpine lake.
3. Roki, Queenstown, New Zealand
Opening in mid-2025, the name of the hotel comes from the te reo Mãori word for tranquil “Ro-kee”. The Roki promises to bring a new meaning to ultra luxury on the lakefront in Queenstown curated with thoughtful touches of distinction and personalised hospitality.
Featuring only 15 suites, all with breathtaking views of the natural surroundings, the hotel aims to “create a sacred sanctuary of pure escapism”, facilitated by the Roman inspired wellness centre that features a gym, a heated indoor pool, jacuzzi and saunas.
4. Few & Far Luvhondo, Soutpansberg Mountains, South Africa
Slated to open in early 2025, safari company Few & Far will debut its first branded eco-lodge with Luvhondo. Nestled in the Soutpansberg Mountains of Limpopo and surrounded by some of the largest Baobab trees in Southern Africa, the Luvhondo lodge promises an unparalleled blend of adventure and relaxation in one of the most unique biospheres in the region.
The lodge only offers 6 uniquely designed tented Cliff suites, locally handcrafted, “that blend luxury with the raw beauty of the African wilderness”, all disposing of their own private plunge pool, a plus next to the site’s swimming pool and spa.
5. Capella Kyoto, Japan
Opening in mid-2025, the location in Kyoto will mark the debut of Capella Hotels and Resorts in Japan. The hotel will be located in the Miyagawa-chĹŤ district, an important geiko (geisha) and maiko (apprentice geisha) neighbourhood and cultural treasure in Kyoto.
The hotel encompasses 92 rooms across four storeys. A Japanese garden courtyard lies in the centre of the hotel, and, beneath it, the Capella ballroom faces a multi-story internal rock garden atrium, with Capella’s signature Auriga Spa also located on the same floor.
6. Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique, Costa Rica
Debuting in spring 2025, Waldorf Astoria Costa Rica Punta Cacique is situated on the dramatic cliffside peninsula of Cacique on Guanacaste’s secluded Playa Penca. The resort’s thoughtful design fuses modern architecture and superior amenities with tropical surroundings, native flora and fauna, connecting guests with the natural environment and enchanting them with expansive ocean and tropical forest views.
Besides the 148 guest​ ​rooms and 40 suites, the resort will feature six dining outlets, and a spa that “combines ancient rituals with nature-inspired experiences to nurture balance, renewal and profound harmony”.
