Like all of the travel industry, skiing and snowboarding destinations have suffered the consequences of the pandemic, starting from the end of 2019 and into the first of months of 2020. Resorts and hotels had to face the new Covid-19 policies and many of them had to shut down. This year seems closer to a normal one, with travellers considering winter holidays. For those who cannot resist anymore without the skis on their feet, here are the top 5 destinations for a great winter sportive holiday!
1. Dolomites, Italy
Maybe one of the most beautiful places for skiing. Magical hikes along the snowy forests, around the Lake of Braies and Tre Cime de Lavaredo. Dolomites Superski is the biggest ski “resort” in the heart of the mountains and you should really go before the crowd coming for the World Cup races (16-19 Dec). This place is a World Heritage site and you can ski-in/out of the 50 villages spread among the mountains.
2. Amirsoy Mountain Resort, Uzbekistan
This new resort zone (almost 900 hectares) is located in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region. Local and foreign customers are attracted by the high-quality infrastructure and services. The zone is provided with 15km of prepared slopes with seven groomed runs, the longest of which is Bravo (2,383m), plus opportunities for off-piste and heli-skiing. The first hotel to open at Amirsoy is the 5* Park Hotel “Le Chalet by Amirsoy”. Each of the 40 Swiss style wooden chalets can accommodate between two and eight guests. In addition to the en suite double bedrooms, they also have kitchens, lounges with fireplaces, and extensive terraces with mountain views.
3. Zillertal skii area, Austria
The village of Gelros, on a quiet mountain at 1246 meters, is a really nice place for skiing, with 180 lifts and it offers moonlight skiing. Des Gerlos is a resort in Austria that offers the best solution for those who want to ski and stay in a modern room. The resort is described as “basic but wow”, as reported by The Guardian, and though the new pad calls itself a modern hostel, it looks pretty smart and has a spa.
4. French Dolomites, France
French Alps are one of the most famous places to have a skiing holiday. Even if in the past it seemed a prohibitive destination for family trips, now the French resorts offer a good solution in a big hotel, with buffet meals, entertainment, and everything is included in the accommodation. The village of Pralognan-la-Vanoise saw the opening of a stylish four-star Hotel Edelweiss. Christmas time is the best moment to go skiing!
5. Eagle Point, Utah
Maybe not the most famous place for skiing, but one of the snowiest. On the Tushar Mountains at 10,000 feet in southern Utah, only a few hours from major airports, this is a totally new experience that you can have. The Private Eagle Resort can be booked for events, small groups, family, or a few friends and you can have in 650: 40 trails, five lifts, 1500 vertical feet of powder, and no lift lines at all.
