Florence, maybe one of the most beautiful cities in the world, is rich in history, art, and traditions. The city is full of masterpieces and if you only have 24 hours, you can try to get the taste of this city, but it is hard (impossible) to see everything, also because every time you visit it, there will always be something new to surprise you. These are some top spots that you can’t miss.
1. Piazza della Signoria
Impossible to miss. The historical square was once the political power seat, and today you can visit Palazzo Vecchio where you can discover the Salone dei 500 and climb the Torre di Arnoflo from where you’ll see the whole city. In this square, you’ll have the chance to admire the beautiful statues under the Loggia Dei Lanzi and the great copy of Michelangelo’s statue, the David.
2. Chiesa di Santa Croce
Here is where Stendhal reached those strong emotions that forever since have been named Stendhal Syndrome. The Heritage enclosed in this church is precious. It is the place where Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, and Galilei are buried. It is the largest Franciscan church worldwide. It was started in the XIII century and renovated during the XVII. Initially, it was the burial place of Franciscan friars, but the Florentine wealthier families decided to have their tomb there. You must visit it just because of the two crucifixes that you find on the top of the church.
3. Piazza del Duomo
You can visit the Brunelleschi masterpiece for free and it is the biggest cupola in stonework worldwide. The frescoed walls are 3600 m² wide and were painted by Vasari and Zuccari around 1570-80. If you have time, take a seat in one of the bars near the Duomo to enjoy the stunning view, while sipping a good coffee.
4. Galleria dell’Accademia
It is clear that you cannot leave this city without visiting the Academia Museum where the essence and the symbol of Florence is enclosed. Indeed, among the beautiful treasures you can see here, there is also the original Michelangelo’s David. You will be captured by its beauty and maybe a private guide could be the best choice to appreciate it even better.
5. Ponte Vecchio
Another must-visit. Ponte Vecchio is a symbol of Florence. Taking a romantic photo on this bridge, with the river as the background has no price. You will be surprised by the crowd that always visits this bridge. Indeed, it is always full also because of the shops that you can find there such as jewelry or leather products shops.
6. Piazzale Michelangelo
A bit outside of the center, but a must for a Florence get away. It is one of the most romantic places, a really lovely place to enjoy as a couple. You can see the sunset and take pictures of all the city, that you can totally see from the terrace.
