Homemade gifts aren’t just a cheaper option, they also have the potential to be more personal than those you usually find in the stores. And even though Christmas is rapidly approaching, there is still some time left to get creative and make something yourself. If you need a little inspiration, here are 5 homemade Christmas present ideas.
1. Jams, marmelades and syrups
Do you perhaps have some fruit laying around? Well, good news, because you could easily turn them into a yummy Christmas present. All you need is a start (strawberries, for example, or apples) and then it’s up to you to find a fitting recipe. Pour those jams, marmelade, syrups or anything else in a beautiful jar, attach an elegant label and your gift is all done.
2. Dry cooking mixes
If you’re getting a gift for someone who loves to cook and to eat but you’re not that handy in the kitchen yourself, there’s a way to let them do the heavy lifting. The only thing you’ll have to do is put somme dry ingredients to a nice container. You could for example make a cookie mix (flour, sugar, baking powder, chocolate) and put it into a beautiful jar. Add a little note stating what else needs to be added and you’re done. It also works with hot chocolate mix, fragranced salts and even lentil soup, just to give a few examples.
3. Room spray
Making some room spray yourself asks for a bit of an effort but you could easily repeat this gift for several different people, meaning you can make one big batch and be done with it. All you need are some essential oils, distilled water, glass bottles (which can be bought online or even at the pharmacy) and a couple of thick labels.
4. Sugar scrubs
You can find sugar scrubs in most drugstores and perfume stores but why not make some yourself? Put in a beautiful glass container with a bow on top, they’ll look like a real treat. All you need to do is stir together some sugar (or sea salt), oil (coconut oil works great) and some extras, like essential oils, to your taste. Don’t go over the top though – just a couple of drops of vanilla extract, a little bit of cinnamon or a few drops of essential oils will do fine. The less extras you put in, the better it will be for sensitive skin.
5. Flower bombs
Have you got a garden and have you gathered some of the grains of your homegrown flowers at the end of summer? Well, if you don’t need them all for yourself, a flower bomb makes for the perfect gift for anyone who loves gardening or nature in general. Mix 1 part of flower seeds with 5 parts of soil and 3 parts of clay. Slowly add in some water to obtain a paste, knead into neat little balls and let dry. If you want, you could add in a beautiful pot for the bomb to be planted in.
