Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, and the world’s second most popular urban area after Tokyo. Jakarta is the center of culture, economy, and politics in Indonesia and besides the skyscrapers and the traffic jams it offers some beautiful places to visit, well worthy of an Instagram post. Below are the 10 most Instagrammable places in Jakarta.
1. National Monument
National Monument (Monas) is a 132m obelisk in the center of Merdeka Square, Central Jakarta, symbolizing the fight for Indonesia. Monas was opened to the public in 1975 and is topped by a flame covered with gold foil. The obelisk is the icon of the city and you can walk around both the monument and surrounding park which are very picture worthy.

If you’re looking for a dinner spot with an amazing view of Jakarta, Skye 56 restaurant offers very nice food, eaten on the rooftop with beautiful views of Jakarta at night. There is also an incredible infinity pool at the top for you to enjoy or just relax.
3. Taman Mini Indonesia Indah
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah or ‘Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park’ is a cultural based park showing the diversity of Indonesia. Here you will find 250 acres of park showing the different Indonesian cultures, architecture, and islands, with plenty of opportunities for pictures for your Social Media.
4. Kota Tua
Kota Tua or Old Town is a neighborhood comprising the original downtown area of Jakarta. In this area you can find amazing old buildings from the Dutch colonial era, and there is lots of history and museums to explore. China town is also very cool and don’t forget to try the local cuisine and street food.
5. Sunda Kelapa Harbour
One of my favorite places in Jakarta is Sunda Kelapa Harbour, the old port of Jakarta located on the estuary of Ciliwung River. At sunset the harbor is especially beautiful, with Pinisi, traditional Indonesian boats, lined up all along the waters edge.
6. Taman Wisata Alam Mangrove
If you want escape the crowds of Jakarta you must visit Taman Wisata Alam Mangrove, a protected nature conservation area at Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, along the north coast of Jakarta. This area is very peaceful, but be sure to follow the rules shown at the entrance to help protect the natural area.
7. Ancol Beach
Ancol is a coastal lowland area located to the east of Kota Tua in northern Jakarta. Ancol has many places to visit, from parks and beaches to the biggest themed amusement park in Indonesia. Be sure to visit the beach at sunset for some gorgeous views.
8. Thousand Islands
Kepulauan Seribu or “The Thousand Islands” is a chain of islands in the north of Jakarta’s coast. It consists of a string of more than 342 islands stretching 45 km, 23 are privately owned and are not open to the public. Some of them are home to resorts and two islands are historic parks. You can reach the islands by boat from Marina Ancol.
9. Rumah Akar
Rumah akar located in Kota Tua is one of most famous places for photography in Jakarta. Huge tree roots cover doors and windows, giving the building a creepy look and perfect for updating your Instagram with some interesting photos.
10. Museum Macan
Museum Macan (Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara) is an art museum at Kebon Jeruk and is the first in Indonesia to have a collection of modern and contemporary Indonesian and international art. With so many beautiful collections and exhibitions on offer you will have many photo opportunities in this museum for your Instagram feed.
