Cycling holidays are getting more and more popular these days. Which doesn’t exactly come as a surprise. Since the beginning of the pandemic, people tend to care more about their health, meaning they pay attention to what they eat and they try to get some exercise. Moreover, even though travelling is allowed again, most of us aren’t very eager to share our seat nor the air we breathe with others. Which doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room when it comes to choosing your way of transportation: either you go by car, or you walk, or you cycle. Of course, all the other options are fine too, yet you’ll have to cope with the other travelers.
So let’s talk a bit more about travelling by bike. It’s certainly not fit for everyone – you have to enjoy spending a lot of time cycling and you have to be able to be quite minimalist when it comes to packing. Everything has to fit in your cycling bags and those aren’t that big. Yet if those things don’t bother you, it certainly is a very free way of travelling. You go where you want, you don’t have to plan a lot in advance and you get to enjoy the outdoors.
The only thing you’d have to plan, is where to sleep. Especially during peak season, hotels get full pretty fast and you don’t want to have to spend the night sleeping on some bench. Yet what if you could even take away this downside? Well, turns out you can. With the camping bike.
Although obviously way smaller than a camping car, the camping bike broadly follows the same reasoning: your way of transportation is also your accommodation at night. How’s that possible, you ask? Well, the inventor of the ‘Cercle’, as the bike is called, is Bernhard Sobitta and he wants to develop a very practical way of travelling by bike which also allowed to camp at night. Yet he didn’t want to carry a heavy tent, mattress and all that. So he exchanged the normal frame with a big circle, which also carries a foldable bed. And if it’s raining, you could even attach a canvas to the circle to keep you and your luggage dry. Sounds a bit strange, so don’t hesitate to have a look at the video to fully understand the concept. At the moment, the bike’s still being tested yet we can’t wait to see the final result.
