The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a new ‘One Stop Security’ (OSS) pilot program that enables passengers from select foreign airports, including London, to bypass a second security screening and luggage recheck upon arrival in the U.S. Announced on 27 August, the program aims to make the journey for international travellers faster and more efficient.
Assessment of the programme began last July with two flights departing from London Heathrow International Airport, one operated by American Airlines flying to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, and the other by Delta Air Lines and going to Atlanta’s Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The programme was a top priority for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and was made possible thanks to collaboration between the TSA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the United Kingdom.

According to Adam Stahl, the TSA’s acting deputy administrator, OSS is intended to “streamline the passenger journey while bolstering aviation security”. Stahl added that the programme should also cut costs while advancing “President Trump’s vision for a new golden age of American travel”.
However, not all airports will be able to participate in the programme. Only those that meet certain standards will qualify. “We conduct rigorous threat screening and monitoring at the final point of departure airport,” Stahl told Fox News, “to ensure a commensurate level of security”.
The TSA lists several programme benefits, including:
– No second screening upon arrival in the U.S.
– The ability to go directly to the sterile area after CBP inspection
– Checked baggage transferred straight to the final destination
– Additional screening at foreign airports to remove the need for it to be repeated in the U.S.

David Seymour, American Airlines’ Chief Operating Officer, called OSS “one of the most forward-thinking enhancements we can bring to international travel”, adding that it “delivers a level of convenience and time savings that has never been available before”.
The benefits are intended for all travellers, from business passengers, who can use their transit time for work or meetings, to tourists, who can start their holiday experience earlier and arrive at their destination feeling fresher.
OSS is not the first programme offered by the TSA to make travelling easier. One such programme, “Serve with Honour, Travel with Ease”, focuses on veterans and their families, while “Families on the Fly” ensures there are extra priority lanes for families at security checkpoints and offers discounted TSA PreCheck.

APEX Group CEO Dr Joe Leader characterised the collaboration as a benchmark moment for U.S. aviation, underscoring the convergence of policy and technology. “U.S. CBP, TSA, and American Airlines have demonstrated how a thoughtful blend of policy and technology can elevate both security and traveller convenience,” said Dr Leader. “One-Stop Security lays the groundwork for all U.S. airports and airlines seeking smarter, connected processes.”
