The Kazakh folklore-ethnographic ensemble Sazgen Sazy will be performing in Brussels on 16 October, at Flagey’s Studio 4. The concert is co-organized by the Mission of Kazakhstan in Brussels in anticipation of and to celebrate the National Day of Kazakhstan, on 25 October.
Sazgen Sazy was founded in 1981 under the Republican Museum of Kazakh national folk instruments. From the very beginning, the ensemble’s goal and mission was the promotion of traditional folk music, its members constantly seeking new approaches and working on improving and adapting ancient musical instruments.
The folk music is ever-lasting and being classical it is fundamental and is the springhead of our being, we have been raised, brought up, educated and fostered on the ambience of this type of music.
Sazgen Sazy
The group has been popularizing Kazakh music by constantly searching for new approaches, combinations of musical styles and collaborations. To mirror the rich musical heritage of Kazakhstan, each musician of Sazgen Sazy plays several instruments that range from the better-known dombra, zhetyghen, sherter, sybyzghy and saz syrnai, to ancient but renewed instruments such as the adyrna, sazghen or narkobyz.
The ensemble’s performing style is characterized by graceful artistic skills, harmony, professionalism, virtuosity and excellent knowledge of traditional particularities of playing musical folk instruments.
To further enrich the cultural experience of their concerts, the musicians only perform in traditional costumes, embroidered by professional needlewomen, tailored in accordance with sketch designs of national traditions.
Gracefully and masterfully playing the traditional instruments, as well as embodying the image and atmosphere of Kazakh culture, Sazgen Sazy enables the audience to experience the sense of richness and flavour of the steppe and meadows of Kazakhstan. The ensemble’s performances exude the depth of the centuries, encompassing original creations of folk composers and bringing ancient, “mysterious” instruments to life.
Sazgen Sazy’s repertoire incorporates enthralling musical works composed by famous Kazakh musicians such as Kurmangazy, Tatimbet, Sughur, the musicians of the ensemble constantly enriching and improving their repertoire.
