For a lot of us, Millennials, Britney Spears makes up a good deal of our childhood. Back then, singles still existed (you know, those CD’s with just one or a couple of songs on them). For a couple of euros, you could buy your very own piece of music, put it in your Walkman (Google that if you don’t know what I’m talking about) and listen to it locked in your room time and time again. One of the artists back then releasing some new material quite often was Britney Spears and I’m not ashamed to say she was my first single.
Now, some twenty years later, a lot has changed. No one buys singles anymore and a Walkman is something you’ll sooner see in a museum than anywhere else. And as far as Britney goes, life hasn’t treated her quite well. Unless you’ve lived under a rock for the last couple of years, you’ve most certainly heard about the #FreeBritney-movement, aimed at terminating the conservatorship under which she has lived for more than a decade. The last word hasn’t been said yet on that matter, so to be continued.
1. Years of trial and error
But back to the matter of the day. We’re here to talk about Britney’s favorite sandwich in the whole wide world – coming from an artist who’s travelled a lot, this actually means something. According to Britney, she first got a taste of the sandwich fifteen years ago at an American deli called Schlotzsky’s Deli Sandwich. For one reason or another, she was then convinced that the deli (which is actually a chain) didn’t exist anymore and that she wouldn’t be able to order that delicious sandwich a second time. For fifteen years, she actually tried to make it herself until one day, not so long ago, she finally succeeded. Victory.
2. The recipe
And because the star didn’t want to keep the recipe to herself, she decided to share it with her followers through an IGTV. If you want to get a taste of the sandwich yourself, you can follow the instructions from Britney herself in the video.
What you’ll need are goat cheese, pecan nuts, chicken, turkey, avocado, lettuce and pear. And a piece of ciabatta bread, of course. If all of this seems like too much hassle, you could also visit one of the Schlotzsky’s Deli Sandwich-stores. The chain already reacted to the video, stating the recipe indeed looked a lot like their Orchard Salad. And of course, as a little thank you, they will be sending one to Britney.
